Auditions

There are no height or weight requirements for either of the dance teams. Candidates must be a 9 th-12 th grade female that will be attending CHS the next school year in order to be eligible. They must also be currently passing 5 full credit academic classes.

Charisma tryouts are held in May of the previous school year, and Coquettes tryouts are held at the end of October each year

The first day of tryouts, the candidates will learn a short dance including the required components taught and choreographed by the previous year’s outgoing senior class. The second day the candidates are given a tryout number at random and are broken into groups of 2-3. They are then asked to perform the routine in front of a panel of judges who scores them based on a rubric in the following categories: kicks, turns, leaps, memory of choreography, facial expressions, overall dancing appearance (sharp/clean moves), and fitness. The scores are then averaged and each candidate’s average score is ranked among the other candidates trying out. The team is chosen by the averaged scores and generally is over twenty young women based on where a natural break in the scoring occurs.

It is recommended that comfortable clothing be worn for tryouts, so that movement is not restricted. It is also recommended that candidates bring and audio cassette tape the first day of tryouts in order to record the music to make practicing at home easier.
