What is AVID?
- Stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination
- National program for grades 6-12

College prep, NOT remedial or a study hall
- An elective class, taught by Jen Williams and Brooke Weekes
Who are our AVID students?
-
academically in the middle with the potential to achieve at a higher level
- working towards a Core 40 or Honors diploma
- challenged to take rigorous courses
- motivated to be successful
What do they do in the AVID class?
- Learn how to take notes in a proven format, Cornell notetaking
- Learn how to keep an organized binder of all their classes
- Learn time management, self-advocacy, and interpersonal skills
- Increase writing skills through timed writing assignments
- Are held accountable for all of these things by the grade that they earn
What do they do in their other classes?
- Take notes on Cornell note paper
- Use a large binder
- Ask questions; are involved in classes
- Take advantage of extra opportunities to learn, such as SRT and study sessions
